BIOGRAPHY:

Charles Frederick Buckley was likely born in Cork, Ireland in 1812 and died in London in 1869. He was a member of an artistic Irish family. Charles exhibited at the British Institution and the Royal Society of British Artists on Suffolk Street, London between 1841-1869. Records suggest he was living with fellow watercolourist and miniaturist John Edmund Buckley at 17 King William Street, London in 1843. John was also an Irish artist from Cork and presumably the two were brothers. Charles’ work has a strong presence on the auction market. His work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from $41 to $26,548, depending on the size and medium of the artwork.

It is ‘The Great Exhibition, Crystal Palace, 1851’ painting that sold at Christie’s London ‘BRITISH ART ON PAPER’ in 2004 for $26,548.
